Many woodworkers ask for advice on which of our many block planes they should buy. Often the concern is that the plane they choose needs to provide a great deal of functionality, as it may be the only plane they purchase. With that in mind, I often suggest our Low Angle Rabbet Block Plane.

J. Norman Reid, Delaplane, Virginia In the 1760s, André-Jacob Roubo was commissioned by the French Royal Academy to write a treatise on furnituremaking practice. The result was a massive masterwork that described in great detail the methods of French woodworking artisans in pursuit of their highest art and craft.
