Here's My Woodworking!

What do I do with all my scraps of wood? I make projects out of them!
We all have them. In boxes, bins, bags or just piles. If you are like me, I look at that off cut and
go "I'm sure I can use that for SOMETHING someday." So into the pile, bag or bin it goes, to be
forgotten.
Every few months (or years), I grab up all the scraps and try to do something, (anything!) with
them. There are always end grain cutting boards to make, David Picciuto has a video on his
YouTube channel on making a book rest out of scraps (I highly recommend giving his channel a
look). But what about those super small cut offs? Maybe you just chuck them, but I keep
almost all my cutoffs. I'm stubborn like that.
Here are 3 projects I make to clean up my scrap pile:
Wine Bottle and Wine Glass Holder
This is just a few pieces about 6 inches long laminated together. A hole in the center for the
bottle and holes (or just slots) for the glasses on either end. For the middle you can use smaller
pieces, cut and glue them together on a 45 degree angle. The joint will not be seen.
Bottle Holder
These are great because any piece 1-1/2 inches wide and 5 inches long is all that is needed. Dress
them up anyway you want. The bottom is a 40 degree angle (or so). Round over the edges,
decorate with your logo (or any design) in contrasting wood. I've done some beach inspired ones decorated with
small seashells. Since these are made of scraps you can even give them away with a business card!
Travel Humidor
This is a good one for thin stock. Humidors can be made out of 1/4" stock. It will take a couple of
longer pieces than might be scrap. 7 inches long and 3-1/2 inches wide will carry two cigars
snugly. Line with cedar pulled from an empty cigar box for a finishing touch. (Cigar stores will
sometimes give you the empties).
I hope this gives you some more ideas about using up your scraps and making Christmas gifts or
for filling your booth at the local trade show.
