Here's My Woodcarving!

Most of the things I carve (as with many artists) are influenced by such things as family, Mother Nature, life, death and in general, the universe around us. Carving is a fantastic art that's brought myself, my family, my friends and even some strangers a whole lot of joy. I've been so blessed to have another opportunity to share some of these wonderful pieces with the woodcarving world after my first column appeared in the
December 2016 issue of Wood News Online
.
I've never met or shared ideas with other carvers and I don't attend regular woodcarving seminars or meetings. I don't really have any specific techniques, I just carve.
When I start to carve, it's usually from scratch and the picture in my head at the beginning is rarely what exists at the end. As I work, new thoughts and ideas pop in my head and sometimes I just "role with it."
So, there's my technique....JUST ROLE WITH IT. You never know what masterpiece you may end up with. You might get an Elephant with Wings or a Turtle Ring Box. Perhaps a dreaded mistake will turn into a Half Man-Half Reaper. You never know because carving is like that. Art with broad borders.
