Here's My Workshop!

Here is the shop that I built on a Montana mountaintop several years ago. My original shop in our mountain retreat was in our basement. However that space was limited and I soon got tired of bumping into one piece of equipment or another every time I turned around. So I decided it was time to build something more roomy and customized to suit my needs. My new shop would be 720 square feet including a separate closet to hold the dust collector and provide additional storage. Since we were on a rocky mountain top, I was limited as to foundation options, so I decided on a platform mounted on piers that were anchored to the bedrock. To make things go a little easier I prebuilt wall panels in my garage and installed them on the completed floor system. The project started the beginning of October and lasted until the following spring. Once the shell was enclosed (roof dried in on a frigid New Years weekend), things went fairly quickly to make the shop habitable and a useful working space. The photos show the story of the shop’s construction from the ground up. Also included are some images of furniture and some other items that I’ve made. Many of them were fabricated from trees harvested on our property including the classic wooden work bench.
